The Top Fall 2022 Fashion Trends and Where to Find them on a Budget

SHEER SKIRTS
This is a nod to the early 2000s when handkerchief scarves and asymmetrical skirts were worn by the Olsen twins, Anne Hathaway, and many who aspired to be just as trendy. This is an updated, chic look with a mini or midi underskirt, or overskirt, and a sheer, knee- to ankle-length piece attached.

MARY JANE HEELS
Mary Janes are another early 2000s shoe trend making their way back to the runway this upcoming season. You’ll see some top designers’ models in not only Mary Janes, but Mary Jane-style heels. They add a bit of a platform and are easy to wear with tights or a fleece-lined stocking when it starts to cool off. They’re perfect to wear with a dress or skirt, especially as you transition your sundresses into fall looks with cardigans and layers and leave your wedges in the closet for next summer.

SILVER
While you might usually save your silver skirts, dresses, and tops for the holiday season in December, silver is the metallic for this fall. For a wearable, under-stated look, you can throw your favorite graphic tee over a silver-sequined skirt and wear it with the sneakers, booties, or heels of your choice.

PLATFORM BOOTIES
“Barbie-core” has made an appearance this year with hot pink statement pieces, head-to-toe pink outfits, “Legally Blonde” inspired looks, and many a bedazzled accessory. Some fashion forecasters are predicting that the extreme Barbie-inspired trend will soon be over with, but one thing that will remain are platform shoes. Platform booties are everywhere on runways for fall; sock booties, ankle booties, mid-calf booties, and booties of all kinds are showing up with a platform. Because these are already so popular, finding an affordable, everyday version of these is going to be extra easy. They’re perfect for dresses or boyfriend jean looks with a little edge.

HIGH NECKLINES
This summer’s runway was full of barely-there tops, but the designers are pointing autumn fashion trends in another direction: high necklines. Don’t think turtle-necks, think high-neck tanks, zip-ups, halter, and bateau necklines. These are also incredibly easy to incorporate into your existing outfits for work, dinner, or to wear casually with denim.

LONG BOOTS
Have you seen Kim Kardashian’s Balenciaga looks over the past couple of years? What about her pant-boots this summer? Be prepared to see pant-boots and long, thigh-highs all over the runway this season. This high-fashion look is easy to pull off with over-the-knee boots and a fitted top. If you haven’t thrown away your skinny jeans during the wide-leg boyfriend pant epidemic, they’ll be perfect for tucking into your boots to recreate this for an everyday look.

MINI SKIRTS
The height of pioneer dresses is over and mini skirts and dresses are reappearing. Mini doesn’t always mean mini; typically it refers to a hemline that sits above the knee. If you love the look but need it to be more practical, wear a pair of comfy Spanx shorts or other shapewear that give you coverage and security while remaining nicely hidden.

STRUCTURED COATS
Last year seemed to be the last of the faux-fur and fuzzy coats for a moment. Structured outdoor coats for cool weather are back. These are really practical because they tend to be toasty and functional, but if you live in a warm climate, you can wear an oversized blazer with a bodysuit for the same vibe.
