‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Is a Superhero Gem

Let’s rip the band-aid off. If I could slow-clap and stand in tears in front of the team that captured, scored, wrote, and acted out this gem of a book-end, I would. But you should also know I’m not an MCU super-fan; I’m just here for the potential love stories and backstories. I love context, details, and the interwoven (pun intended) stories that move through the movies and characters. As a writer and director, it’s exciting to see these stories unfold.
This movie served as the most incredible closure and love letter to Spider-Man and every story that has gone before.
And oh, did they unfold in Spider-Man: No Way Home. When the first Tom Holland installment jumped off the screen, I was initially not wowed. I’ve lived through two versions of these movies already, guys! I come from the “Toby Maguire hanging upside down in the rain to kiss Kirstin Dunst era.” How can you match that!? But just like I sat through all of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies and eventually fell in love with his version of Spider-Man, Tom Holland has slowly won me over as my favorite ever to wear the red suit. And of course, Zendaya could stand on screen for 20 minutes playing the tambourine, and I would watch it, so there’s that.
In an attempt to not ruin this movie for everyone because the spoilers are vast, I will only say a few things you need to know.
The overall synopsis of Spider-Man: No Way Home is this: Spider-Man has been outed by Mysterio, and as a result, he goes to Dr. Strange to help him out, and it backfires in all the worst ways, and yet some of the most remarkable ways. That’s all you need to know about the story. Trust me, you don’t want to know anything else as it will ruin the surprises. Also, just for good measure, prepare for the following:
- You will cry. Crying is going to happen; bring some tissues.
- You will be wowed. Disney, Sony, and MCU took all the bells and whistles and salaries and threw them at this movie.
- You will audibly gasp. My audible gasp was followed by a “You gotta be kidding me!” which scared the guy sitting next to me. But it’s going to be good, and awkward, and worth it.
This movie served as the most incredible closure and love letter to Spider-Man and every story that has gone before.
As the kids are saying nowadays, don’t @ me, but this is hands-down the best superhero of the bunch.
