Sandra Bullock’s Comedic Genius Shines Once Again in ‘The Lost City’

You know when you watch a movie preview of an upcoming film, and you have a sense that all the amusing parts were already in the trailer?! When I sat down to watch The Lost City, I was afraid of that. But thankfully, only 75% of the funny parts were in the trailer.
Sandi B is a legend, and she brings her physical comedic genius to the Lost City with grace and hilarity.
I love Sandi B; she’s my all-time favorite actress, and I will watch anything she’s in. I may have even cut my hair like her in the 90s and still blame her for my eyebrows never recovering. With all that being said, it was an “okay” movie. It was beautifully shot, portions were laugh-out-loud funny, and Sandra Bullock is an icon, so you should see the film. Rotten tomatoes gave it a 100%, which feels wrong as there were significant gaps in the plot line, and portions of the movie just felt out of place. For example, I get that ‘Magic Mike’ is in the film, and don’t get me wrong, Channing Tatum is hilarious and easy on the eyes. But I didn’t need to stare at his butt cheeks for that long and on a giant screen. Like we get it, It’s Chan! But it felt like lazy writing and way too slapstick for my taste. If that’s your thing though, you’re going to love it!
Sandi B is a legend, and she brings her physical comedic genius to the Lost City with grace and hilarity. The movie itself felt haphazardly pieced together though. Daniel Radcliffe’s villainous smile and baby blues kept the train moving. He is the real star of this film, and not once did I think to myself, “Yo, Harry Potter is in this?!” He has grown up and out of the stigma of his childhood films, and I was pleasantly shocked as he held his own against the tremendous talent of Sandra Bullock. It was a lovely surprise, and I’d see this movie a few more times to experience the awesomeness of that acting dynamic. Oh! And Brad Pitt. Let’s not forget Brad Pitt. His 10 minutes were so action-packed that it made you miss him throughout the rest of the film.
The real issue with the film was that it took a while for me to feel like Bullock’s character would fall in love with her cover model. The acting was spot on though, and by the end, I was sold on the coupling. You won’t be entirely convinced that they live happily ever after, but they may date for a few months before she probably breaks up with him over a text. Either way, the movie is worthy of a watch and a good laugh, bringing back the Sandra Bullock that all of the older millennials grew up watching.
The Lost City has the naivety and joy of Miss Congeniality, it has the laugh-out-loud moments of The Proposal, and it has the awkward yet believable coupling of Two Weeks Notice. Although it wasn’t my favorite Bullock movie, it was great. See it with friends, in a theater, and with popcorn. You won’t regret it.
