Becoming and Evolving as a Black Woman

Written by Tre'Shonda Sheffey

I [insert your name] am loved.

I was divinely created and marked by God.

I am a combination of many hues.

I am a prodigy of greatness.

I have nothing to prove. I have the tone of Michelle, and wisdom like Maya.

I am resilient.

I am fearless.

I am allowed to show emotion.

I am allowed to be strong and sad.

I express my fierceness in my words and facial expressions.

I am untapped power.

I am victorious.

I am worthy.

I am grateful.

I am a nurturer.

I am forgiving.

I am what sacrifice looks like.

I am in pursuit.

I am a trendsetter.

I am a fighter.

I am an advocate.

I walk with purpose.

I have nothing to prove.

I have the tone of Michelle, and wisdom like Maya.

I have humility.

I have pride.

I constantly evolve.

My identity will not be confined to my labor.

My hair is a statement that is not meant to be touched.

My voice is resounding.

My life matters.

My crown cannot be taken.

My body is my own. My body will not be broken for the sake of others.

My love is infectious.

My legacy expands beyond generations.

My character is authentic and cannot be duplicated.

I am rooted in legacy and wonder.

I am not forgotten.

I am the water pouring over the seeds [my ancestors] awaiting its harvest season.

I am a proud Black woman.

Dedicated to the younger girls in my life – my niece, Aiyana; my little cousins; and daughters that I will have someday. May you always feel confident, powerful, and loved in your skin.
